The #Write2014 Project
Last weekend I was sitting on my couch trying to figure out what my resolutions for the new year would be in 2014. In the past I’ve made so many goals that success was never quite possible. So in 2013, I threw out my resolution tradition, and instead chose personal qualities that I wanted to grow into and embody throughout the year.
It must’ve worked because as I move into 2014 I find myself clearer about my aspirations than I’ve ever been. So when I resuscitated my habit of creating resolutions, it wasn’t a surprise that there weren’t many and they were pretty consistent. In short, every goal was centered around completing or beginning a writing project.
In 2013 I re-remembered that I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was a little girl.
In 2014 I will be that writer.
It was in that moment that the #Write2014 project was born. In the past, the two barriers that have impeded my writing practice were (1) lack of consistency and (2) lack of community and support. The #Write2014 project addresses both of those issues in a way that is simple, and (I think), potentially uplifting and helpful to a large number of writers.
The Details
Participating in the #Write2014 Project is simple.
We will write everyday in 2014 (Jan 1 – Dec 31)… 365 days, rain or shine, for a minimum of five minutes.
You are more than welcome to write for more than five minutes. But five minutes is the starting point and the goal. Where you take it from there is totally up to you.
The medium and type of writing is completely open. You can write a book, a dissertation, a poem, a article, a blog, a short story, tweets, facebook statuses’, a journal or whatever else you can think of. You get to choose.
The objective of #Write2014 is to create a community of writers that will support you in whatever your writing goals are. Only you know how to best achieve those goals. We are just here to cheer you on!
Try to check in via #Write2014 on facebook or twitter (if you check in via facebook, please make your status global so that our community can see it and offer you support). The point of the hashtag is to provide a mechanism for accountability, as well as to allow us to provide encouragement to one another.
……..
So that is about it! If you have any questions or just want to let us know that you are going to participate, leave a comment below.
